How I’m supporting my hormones naturally

Cycle-syncing, food choices, and gentle daily rituals.

One thing I’ve learned over the last few months is how important hormonal balance is to our menstrual cycles – and the impact it has on fibroid growth.

For the last five or six years, I’ve felt disconnected with my body – unsure of what was going on or how to handle the symptoms I was feeling. I often fell into depression, confusion, and, at times self-hatred.

The moment I began to truly listen to what my body was trying to communicate – and started to understand my cycle – was when I began to see real changes in my recovery.

Since my recent setback (which you can read about in “Why My Haemoglobin Dropped To 60: A Wake-Up Call” ) I’ve been on a mission to never go through that again. I know why this happened, and now I’m focused on moving forward, not backwards.

“Our hormones don’t need to be controlled, they need to be supported”

Learning my natural rhythm

Understanding my natural rhythm began when I learned about the different menstrual phases and started preparing myself mentally and emotionally for what I was about to experience. I didn’t like how I was feeling – how I was showing up with my family and friends- and how it was impacting my career and hobbies.

I started reading, “The Fifth Vital Sign” by Lisa Hendrickson- Jack, and it has been truly eye-opening. I’m so grateful this book came into my life. The amount of knowledge I’ve gained – and I am only halfway through! – it has changed the way I view my body.

Book recommendation:

If you want to understand your cycle and learn how to manage your hormones naturally, I highly recommend The Fifth Vital Sign.

Eating with intention, not restriction

Changing my diet and the way I shop has been an interesting shift. Like everything else on this healing journey, there’s been alot of trial and error.

I stopped eating meat because I felt the added hormones might be contributing to my fibroid growth, and I became fully pescatarian.

Later, I learned that this wasn’t sustainable for me. With my extremely heavy periods and no red meat, I wasn’t getting the iron my body desperately needed.

Now, it’s a top priority to stay on top of my iron intake and prevent any further blood transfusions. I doing this through:

  • Juicing regularly
  • Taking iron supplements
  • Eating iron rich foods, like grass-fed steaks, spinach, and beetroot juice

“Healing is listening to what your body truly needs”

Small acts, big difference

These days I try to flow through my mornings with ease and grace. As soon as I open my eyes, I send gratitude for seeing another day – thankful for everyone in my life and praying for healing, peace and harmony.

Morning workouts helps me release unwanted energy and allow me to centre myself with meditation. From there, I set my intention for the day.

These few morning steps have made a huge difference in managing my emotions and reducing stress and anxiety.

Daily rituals I swear by:

  • Journaling and affirmations to release my thoughts and set positive intentions
  • Castor oil packs with a hot water bottle during my period for cramp relief
  • Evening wind-downs and prioritising restful sleep

If I don’t fill my cup with peace and harmony, I can’t show up how I want to for my loved ones.

What small rituals bring you peace and consistency right now?

“Healing doesn’t always look like a big transformation- sometimes it’s in the quiet choices we make daily”

Reflection Prompt:

What rituals bring you peace and consistency right now?

My body’s quiet “thank you”

I notice the biggest improvements when I’m consistent. When I’m juicing regularly and getting my iron through food and supplements, my body responds with:

  • Higher energy
  • Brighter moods
  • Softer, more balanced cycles

This journey isn’t easy. It can be exhausting, frustrating and painful. Just this past month, I was in tears telling my husband that I was fed up- tired- and that I just wanted to feel “normal”.

But process over perfection has become my mantra. Every small step forward matters. No matter how many setbacks I have, I get back up and try again.

I can’t give up on myself- there too much I still want to do.

A love letter to your hormones

All it takes is small steps: one daily ritual, one meal change, one mindful pause.

Healing isn’t linear – it comes in waves of trial and error – and it’s your responsibility to create habits that keep you consistent.

You only have one life. You owe it to yourself to heal your body and make positive changes.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I want to leave you with a few affirmations to help you on your healing journey.

Affirmations for hormonal healing

Take a deep breath and say these words out loud:

“I welcome healing”.

“Every choice I make today is to honour my hormones”

“Every step I take today is towards balance, healing, and peace within my body”

I hope my words have helped you to feel seen, heard and understood. And I hope they encourage you to keep going.

Happy healing
